Above - Dales camping weekend 2007

Welcome to West Yorkshire's Area of the Triumph Sports Six Club.

The West Yorks Area covers Bradford, Halifax, Huddersfield, Leeds and Wakefield although some people living in N.Yorks’ area find that our meeting site is nearer to their homes. Current “regulars” come from as far as Sowerby Bridge, Pontefract, Doncaster and Silsden.

We cater for all Triumph owners and all of the traditional club cars (Herald, Spitfire, Vitesse and GT6) are represented plus Dolomites, a 2.5 saloon, a Renown and a Stag (both under restoration).  A Burlington Arrow makes an occasional appearance and one member even comes along in his Sprite which we pretend is a Triumph as it is so tidy (he was looking for a GT6 but found the frogeye first).  On occasions members turn up on their 2-wheelers even, such as a Harley Davidson and a Bonneville (well, it is a Triumph).

Interest in the “oily bits” varies enormously  - some members have done total rebuilds, others just enjoy using their cars and leave the technical stuff to local firms (see separate section on dealers).  Anyone with a technical problem can at least get sympathy and usually lots of helpful suggestions (some of which work!) We have a stock of tools for use by members, including spring compressor and hub-puller. We have a  current fashion for putting straight sixes into Spitfires with one on the road, one almost complete and a third on the stocks – the TSSC usually refer to these as GT6 convertibles but we call them Gitfires just to be different.

We have a member who runs a pair of road-legal Spitfires, one of which is raced in the TSSC road racing championship series.  Most of us however drive more sedately!   Whilst the majority closet their cars and use them mainly in nice weather a least three “regulars” use their Triumphs as daily transport.

Besides monthly evening meetings we gather at different pubs for Sunday lunch in the winter months.  Many members go to other areas’ events and the numerous rallies in the North (or as far a field as Norfolk). Popular events in recent years have included Harewood, Brodsworth Hall, Cannon Hall, Ripon, Batley and of course Stafford.

Our main annual event is the Dales Run in June – actually a camping weekend with two long scenic runs and an informal Concourse. We get members from up to 150 miles away at this event and profits in 2006 were donated to the British Heart Foundation. This year 2008 the charity will be the R.L.N.I. Humber lifeboat at Spurn Point (named "City of Bradford")

An annual dinner is held in December, with a typical attendance of just under 30.

Some members are seen at every meeting, others just once or twice a year but we like to think everyone enjoys the experience! Looking  forward to  meeting new enthusiasts,

Alan Heaton
